About The department
GIS Lab is equipped with many equipment including Stereoscope, GPS, Rotameter, Planimeter, Geographical Model, Satellite Imageries, Aerial Photograph, Digital and Printed SOI Toposheets etc. Apart from these, there are various surveying instruments like Dumpy Level, Theodolite, Prismatic compass, Plane Table, Brunton Compass, Clinometer, Altimeter etc. Meteorological Instruments like Barometer, Hygrometer, Sixes Maximum-Minimum thermometers also exist in the department. A Refractive Telescope and a Newtonian Telescope help the students to observe the celestial objects.
The scope of the course covers the field such as Geotectonics and Geomorphology, Human Geography, Climatology, Statistical Methods in Geography, Geography of India, Economic Geography, Environmental Geography, Pedology and Biogeography, Sustainable Development, Settlement Geography, Field Work and Research Methodology, Regional Planning and Development, Remote Sensing and GIS, Evolution of Geographical Thought and Disaster Management based Project Work etc. The course includes a survey of socio-economic conditions so that students can go beyond of their own environment to learn about the social, economic and cultural conditions of the people.

- To acquaint the students with the applied parts of Geography i.e. practical knowledge of using ICT Tools, Remote Sensing and GIS.
- To analyse the earth as an integrated human-environment system by examining changing interactions at different spatial and temporal scales.
- To understand the subject matter of various branches of physical and human geography.
- To analyse geographical data and interpret its significance within the context of humanenvironment relations.
- Communicate geographical concepts and data effectively using oral, written and visual forms.

- Investigate complex real-world challenges using appropriate concepts, methods, and tools from one or more geographical sub-disciplines.
- Explain societal relevance of geographical knowledge and apply it to real world humanenvironment issues.
Highligths
- As part of internal evaluation, seminars on relevant topics from the course Curriculum are organized to provide students a chance to acquire the skill of interaction with others. Besides, class tests, quiz, project works and mock tests for exam preparation are arranged.
- Apart from regular classes the department focuses on remedial class before University exams to provide support to students who are struggling with any topic or paper.
- The classroom is equipped with provision of ICT enabled teaching facility. The department shares the College Computer Laboratory equipped with Open Source GIS Software.
- Good stock of equipment including survey instruments, meteorological instruments, stereoscopic devise, aerial photographs, satellite imageries, SOI Topographical maps, Satellite Images, Rocks and Minerals, soil and water testing kits and other drawing and instructional materials creates ideal experiential learning environment.
- The department encourages to unfold the cultural skills of the students by conducting different cultural programs on the occasion of Teachers' Day, Fresher's Welcome and Farewell Programme.
- Conducting Seminars and Conferences on relevant topic is always a priority of the department.
Departmental Achievements
- The department enriches the students with geographical practical knowledge along with theoretical concepts.
- Resting in a rustic environment the department help the students to acquire Under Graduate degree course in Geography. The success rate of the passing out students is almost 100%.
- The department also help the students in their Job replacement through counselling
Future Plans
- Initiation of Post Graduate course in the department.
- Conducting applied GIS and Remote sensing Job oriented courses.
- Establishment of a Paper recycling project.
- Each one plant one project for the students, as a part of environmental awareness program.
- Research on contemporary Environmental issues.
