About The department

The Department of Chemistry, established in 2013, is one of the fourteen Departments of Maynaguri College as a new Science Department with an objective of providing quality education in the conventional areas of science. The Department offers Programme courses in chemistry for undergraduate students. In 2023 we are starting with a Major Course along with some MDC courses also.
There are four major parts teaching at UG level such as Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The students are monitored and evaluated by regular class tests, assignments, mid and end-semester examinations. The Department has a dedicated team of staff members and distinguished faculty, trained at renowned Institutes in India.

To cater to the need, and to groom the interest of students towards science, Department of Chemistry has one well-equipped laboratory (space for 20 students) for conducting practical classes which are managed by well experienced and capable staff.

Why study?

No matter where you are, chemistry is around you. Every day, it affects what we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. Learning chemistry will reveal a whole new understanding of how our world works. Anything that has matter breaks down into chemical building blocks. If chemistry did not exist, we wouldn’t understand why leaves change color in the fall, producing and preserving food, and so on. And there’s always some chemical reaction that affects us in one way or another. It is safe to say the world would be a more mysterious place without it.
The contributions chemistry provides are crucial not only in the workforce but in life. Chemistry is central to our existence and provides insight into how we interact with the world around us, from the air we breathe to the food we eat. If you are interested in majoring in chemistry, read on to learn more about the importance of studying it and why getting a degree is worth it.
That is why LINUS PAULING. said- “Every aspect of the world today – even politics and international relations – is affected by chemistry.”
